History of TV Thrillers

  History of TV Thriller 1950s-60s These early days of tv thrillers were heavily influenced by radio shows and film noir. These consisted of very stereotypical detective and antagonist style story lines from big names like Alfred `Hitchcock. 1970s-80s Now the detective crime narrative really hit off with elements of suspense and drama. A new era of psychological drama began as well as we see recognisable names like columbo and Miami vice which mixed action with crime thriller.  1990s This decade we see the rise of long form tv drama which allows space for more complex and in depth story lines with plot twists and longer narratives. The x-files is a very popular show to this day as we see a blend of horror, sic-fi and conspiracy narrative. 2000s The 90s paved the way in television for more complex narratives however now in the 2000s with advancing technology the boundaries were pushed with darker more sophisticated thrillers like Dexter. STATEMENT OF INTENT

  ­ STATEMENT OF INTENT I have been asked to create 4 posters for an ITV thriller. Thrillers are often dark, psychological and violent, this gives me a good base on how to create my posters and the show itself. However, advertising comes with certain rules and regulations that must be met by the ASA (advertising standards authority.) The organisation requires these regulations to be met to ensure advertising and marketing is safe, not offensive, minimal violence and no drug use. Often thrillers will have a higher PEGI rating meaning they are not suitable for a younger audience, to protect the younger viewers that may see the posters they have to follow the rules of the ASA. ITV depends on advertisements like those that are used at bus stops and on billboards to increase their viewership in turn making them more money.
