­STATEMENT OF INTENT

I have been asked to create 4 posters for an ITV thriller. Thrillers are often dark, psychological and violent, this gives me a good base on how to create my posters and the show itself. However, advertising comes with certain rules and regulations that must be met by the ASA (advertising standards authority.) The organisation requires these regulations to be met to ensure advertising and marketing is safe, not offensive, minimal violence and no drug use. Often thrillers will have a higher PEGI rating meaning they are not suitable for a younger audience, to protect the younger viewers that may see the posters they have to follow the rules of the ASA.

ITV depends on advertisements like those that are used at bus stops and on billboards to increase their viewership in turn making them more money. It is important that these advertisements are presented in an appropriate and professional manner to ensure firstly, no one is offended, and secondly, that the viewership increases from interest in the adverts rather than reduce due to animosity. So, to attract the intended audience I will need to conduct further research into appropriate images, colours, fonts and logos that will match the interests of the 16–25-year-old primary audience. It is most important to please this audience and then hopefully in return gain a secondary audience from other people mostly older people who see the posters at the bus stop.

I have decided on creating a sci-fi cyber thriller named CODEWORD. The narrative is an online crime boss attempts to hack the worlds internet servers in turn corrupting the modern-day earth. To counter this a team of detectives including a super intelligent cyber detective try and stop him in his tracks saving the world as we know it.

To create this poster, I have carefully researched similar shows and have decided on a house style and different fonts that link to the genre. The genre is very appropriate for the target audience as younger people are more the target for modern day technology using devices such as phones and computers.
